Can you convert ordinal data into interval data?
You cannot convert the ordinal scale into interval scale. You see, by using data manipulation, it will not increase the quality of data.
Is ordinal data categorical or continuous?
Ordinal data The data fall into categories, but the numbers placed on the categories have meaning. For example, rating a restaurant on a scale from 0 (lowest) to 4 (highest) stars gives ordinal data. Ordinal data are often treated as categorical, where the groups are ordered when graphs and charts are made.
Can ratio data be converted into ordinal?
Interval or ratio measurements can also be changed into ordinal scale measurements by simply ranking the observations.
Can you convert interval data to ordinal data?
No it is not possible but definitely other way i.e. interval data can be converted to ordinal data. Aggregating (multiple) ordinally scaled variables is not that trivial and this is one of the reasons why many researchers prefer to treat Likert-scale items just like they are recorded using an interval scale.
Can a ordinal variable be treated as a continuous variable?
Not all ordinal variables can be treated as continuous. If the variable you’re considering is the result of a survey where people listed their satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 5, it doesn’t make sense to try to change this variable to a continuous variable, it is an ordinal variable, and should always be treated like one.
How to convert categorical data to continuous data?
One-hot encoding, and very similarly creating dummy variables, may be the most widespread method for categorical to continuous transformation. As I mentioned before, some analyses even do it automatically without you noticing.
How to transform ordinal data from questionnaire into?
Having the data, say: 10 questions on the ordinal level (say 0-5 scale, where 0=”not at all”, 5=”all the time”), I want to tranform them so that they could be treated as proper interval level data for parametric testing purposes (normal distribution, non-parametric tests out of the question). Would be extremely grateful for answers!
