Can you ground through plastic?
Because they are plastic, there is no need to attach a ground wire to it. Since it is made of a non-conductive material, switches and outlets cannot short out if they touch the side of the box. The disadvantages of plastic boxes are their brittleness and wire support brackets.
Does a plastic light fixture need to be grounded?
A light is wired to a circuit by feeding the necessary wires through a light box. Plastic light boxes do not conduct electricity, so they are not required to be grounded. They provide a grounding screw anyway, though, so it is a good habit to get into when wiring.
What if my fixture has no ground wire?
If by chance you are installing an electrical light fixture that has no ground wire into an electrical box with no ground wire as well, then simply connect together the hot wire from the electrical box to the hot (black or red) wire on the light fixture. Make sure to use wire nuts to attach the wires together.

How big should grounding be inside a plastic enclosure?
It depends on the working voltage level, rated impulse voltage level etc. For example, with reference to EN60335, the clearance for a common 230V appliance is 3mm. However as your product will be exposed in a salty environment, I will use the next higher level which is 6mm.
Can a grounding screw be inserted into a metal box?
If a metal box is being used, best practice is to insert a green grounding screw into the threaded hole in the back of the box or enclosure. The equipment-grounding wires then connect to the screw, making the metal box part of the grounding system.
Do you need to ground a blue box?
As the blue boxes are plastic, there is no need to ground them. Should you use any metal boxes, include them in the equipment grounding path with a pigtail to a ground screw within the box.
