Can you link two objects and keep the UV mapping each?

Can you link two objects and keep the UV mapping each?

Select both objects so that the one with the other UV map is active, and press Ctrl L > Transfer UV maps. This will copy the selected UV map from the active object into the selected UV map slot in the selected objects. Now that you have both UV maps on one object, link the other object to the one with both UV maps ( Ctrl L > Link object data ).

Can you create multiple UV maps in Blender?

In Blender 2.8 and beyond you can enter edit mode with multiple objects selected. Before Blender 2.8 Simple answer: “you can’t” Because a UV map pertains to each individual object, and only shows in the UV/Image editor while in edit mode, you cannot combine UV maps, or see multiple maps at the same time.

Is it possible to unwrap multiple objects at once?

If you’re using Maya, you can just select the multiple objects and UV map them as usual. If you’re using 3dsmax, you will need version 2008 before you can unwrap multiple objects at once. I have 3ds Max 9 er… is that outdated already now is it? 😛 Yeah, heh. It’s pretty sucky for unwrapping multiple things onto the same map, unfortunately.

Can you use the same UV map for different textures?

You can still use the same UV map for the material textures, but since you’re using different images in those textures, the UV islands can overlap. In other words, if you have two eyes and a nose in the same mesh and you use different materials for each, their UV’s can be on top of each other if you also use a different image for them.

Can you have more than 8 UV maps?

Could do that, but not a good plan. You can have as many materials as you like, but only 8 UV maps. As mentioned, an UV map is a representation of the mesh. When you use multiple materials that get assigned to mesh faces, the same faces are found on an UV map, but the material already limits what is shown.

Where are the UV maps stored in Blender?

Each set stored in a separate UV Map. The UV Maps live with the mesh object and the list of UV Maps for a specific object can be found in the properties panel. Go to the mesh data tab and find the UV Map section. By default, a primitive object just added into your scene has a UV Map called “UV Map” that is populating the list.
