Can you modify GPL software?
The GPL does not require you to release your modified version, or any part of it. You are free to make modifications and use them privately, without ever releasing them.

You can charge a fee for software covered by the GNU GPL. It’s totally fine. The GNU project encourages you to charge what you can. GNU’s “Free Software” philosophy is “about freedom, not price”. If you provide binaries to a customer, you also must provide source (or access to source).

Users will either receive a virtual machine with the pipeline set up which they can run locally, or submit their input data to us and access their results from a web interface.
