Can you texture paint in Blender?
Blender features a built-in paint mode called Texture Paint which is designed specifically to help you edit your UV textures and images quickly and easily in either the Image Editor or the 3D Viewport. Since a UV texture is just a special-purpose image, you can also use any external paint program, like GIMP or Krita.

There is a way to apply the texture so that it appears in the Texture viewport option though: put your object into Edit Mode. select all faces. head over to the UV Editor and select Image – Open Image.

Is there a textured solid option in Blender 2.8?
Dropping into 2.8 as noted in another thread and trying to get to grips with the new interface. There is one thing I am having hard finding, or finding the equivalent of and that is the “Textured Solid” option. Unfortunately Blender Render has been completely removed in Blender 2.8, so this functionality is no longer available.
