Can you use a piano keyboard as a MIDI controller?
Yes, you can use a digital piano as a MIDI controller as long as it has a USB connection.
How do I put MIDI on my keyboard?
Connect a 5-pin MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT port on the keyboard to the MIDI IN port of the external hardware. If you’re connecting multiple devices, connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI THRU port on the first device to the MIDI IN port on the next one.
Can you use any keyboard for MIDI?
Do you happen to have a music keyboard or digital piano lying around somewhere at home? Put that keyboard into use by using it as a MIDI controller. It would still work even if the keyboard you have is really old. All you need is for your keyboard to have a MIDI OUT port to use it as a MIDI controller.
What is the difference between MIDI controllers and keyboards?
What Is The Difference Between MIDI Keyboard And MIDI Controller? MIDI Controllers are also made to create MIDI data for your computer to read or trigger sounds from hardware synths and samplers. MIDI Keyboards come with pressure-sensitive keys that are used to play software instruments on your computer.
Can I use keyboard as MIDI?
Though you can use your computer keyboard as a MIDI controller, this would be bad practice, as you won’t be able to play naturally. You’ll find that inputting and adjusting MIDI notes on a musical keyboard—as opposed to a QWERTY one—is so much more natural and intuitive.

Is MIDI better than keyboard?
Midi controllers usually come with a keyboard that receives and sends out midi information. MIDI controllers don’t come with inbuilt sound systems, so they cannot produce sound. When used with another source (e.g. your computer) they can now produce sound.
Is it easy to convert an old organ to MIDI?
Converting an old organ is easier than you think and recycling helps you to save our planet’s resources at the same time. For the price of an old organ, and I’ve bought plenty for just 99p on eBay, along with one of our ‘Universal’ Midi Encoders and some wiring you can be up and running in no time.

What kind of keyboard does an organ use?
This project is specifically tailored to organs (or synths) which use a common-connection or what I call “bussed” keyboard. This is most organs built before about 1983. Organs built after 1983 began to use computer control over sound generation and started to use what is called a “matrixed” keyboard.
What kind of Ohm do you need for MIDI?
Typically 10K Ohm is used. So, in our case, every input requires a connection to the supply voltage (5 V) via a 10K resistors. This is a lot of resistors, but luckily, resistors are very inexpensive. So, when we latch in the inputs, if no key is pressed a “high” logic state will be read.
