Can you use C3 oil instead of C4?
“e.g. An ACEA C4 engine oil, cannot be used where an ACEA C3 oil is specified by the manufacturer as the C4 has a lower Sulphated Ash requirement than a C3 oil. This could lead to longevity issues with the engine. “
Which oil is better C3 or C4?
C4 is a lower “SAPS” oil (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous, Sulphur) specifically compatible with exhaust after-treatments such as DEF. C3 actually has better lubricity properties (because SAPS are a good thing extreme-pressure-wise), but may effect emissions.
What does C4 mean on oil?
engine Oil
C4: An engine Oil with low SAPS-Level, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended drain intervals that are designed to be capable of using oils with a minimum HTHS Viscosity of 3.5 mPa*s.
What does ACEA C3 mean on oil?
ACEA C3 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil with Mid SAPS-Level, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended Drain Intervals in Vehicles with all Types of modern Aftertreatment Systems and High Performance Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines that are designed to be capable of using Oils …
Can I put any 5w30 oil in my car?
The ’30’ or ’40’ refers to the oil flow at higher engine temperatures. ’30’ is often for newer petrol engines, while ’40’ is often for older or diesel engines. 5W-30 and 5W-40 oils are compatible with some models of common cars, like the Ford Focus, Ford Ka, Honda Civic and VW Golf.
Is C2 or C3 oil better?
Example – an ACEA C2 engine oil will provide better fuel economy that an ACEA C3 engine oil, but may not provide the same protection levels due to the lower film strength. ACEA C grade oils are for the most, not interchangeable with one another depending on the particular applications.
Can you use any 5W-30 oil?
Can I use ACEA C3 instead of C2?
What does 5W-30 C3 mean?
SAPS stands for ‘Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous, Sulphur’ and it’s often referred to as simply low ash oil. So an engine oil labelled 5W30 C1, C2 or C3 is a 5w30 grade oil suitable for cars fitted with DPF’s.
Can oil be C2 and C3?
In Europe, according to the ACEA, low ash oil is labelled as C1 (0.5% ash), C2 (0.8% ash – better suited to higher performance engines) and C3. So an engine oil labelled 5W30 C1, C2 or C3 is a 5w30 grade oil suitable for cars fitted with DPF’s.
What kind of oil does a 5W30 engine use?
Think of it like this: a 5W30 oil is a 5-weight oil that will not thin more than a 30-weight oil when it gets hot. Multi-grade oil ratings look like this: SAE 5W-30. This is based on a 5W oil, tested at -25 degrees C, but at high temperature, it will not thin out more than a ’30’ weight oil would.
What kind of oil is ACEA A5 / B5?
All they mean by A5/B5 is a synthetic oil with HTHS ~ 3.0 cP. In US this translates into a GM dexos1 Gen 2/Gen 3 5W-30.
What kind of Oil can I put in my Acea 2.0T?
Which is weird since their temp chart for the 2.0T allows for 5w-30, 5w-40, 10w-30, 15w-40 and 20w-50, but only 5w-30 meets the A5 spec. there is a little disclaimer at the bottom of the temp chart that says: For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of a viscosity grade SAE 5W-30 (API SM / ILSAC GF-4).
What’s the difference between C3 and C4 Acea oil?
About ACEA. C1 and C4 are low-SAPS oils, while C2 and C3 are mid-SAPS oils. On the other hand C1 and C2 oils have lower HTHS viscosities, while C3 and C4 oils have higher HTHS viscosities. The C5 category that has been newly introduced in the ACEA 2016 sequences has even lower limit for HTHS vicsosity.
