Can you use pedals with a DI box?
I’ve done sessions where I put a mic on the acoustic and run a DI through some guitar pedals for some unorthodox tones. We can still use a traditional DI box like the Radial Passive DI or a mic preamp such as an API 312.
Are effects pedals worth it?
Are guitar effects pedals necessary or worth it? Effects pedals can help you achieve the exact tone and sound you’re looking/listening for in your guitar and amplifier. However, they are, by no means, necessary. You can have great success with an electric guitar and an amp.
Is it better to run pedals through effects loop?
The biggest advantage is that effects placed in the loop tend to sound clearer and more pronounced. The general consensus is that time based effects (e.g. delay, flange, chorus etc) sound better in the effects loop whilst dirt effects (e.g. overdrive and distortion) and compressors work best in front of the amp.

How do you record clean DI on guitar?
You plug your guitar into the instrument input of the DI-box and go from the balanced XLR-output directly into your microphone-preamp. From the second, unbalanced output of the DI-box, you go into your amp and capture it with a microphone. Just as you usually would.
Do you need a DI box with a guitar pedal?
The difference is that the effects pedal will output an instrument‑level output rather than the mic‑level output provided by a DI box, so should be fed into a mixer or interface line input. Most computer interfaces and mixers have enough gain to cope with instrument‑level signals (nominally about 10‑20dB below full line level) without any problems.

Why do you put distortion pedals later in the chain?
Placing overdrive/distortion pedals later in the signal chain can increase noise as the noise of several effects chained together can add up, and any noise produced by other effects going into an overdrive/distortion effect will be boosted along with the guitar signal.
