Do compilers compile to assembly?
14 Answers. gcc actually produces assembler and assembles it using the as assembler. Not all compilers do this – the MS compilers produce object code directly, though you can make them generate assembler output. Translating assembler to object code is a pretty simple process, at least compared with compilation.
Is bytecode interpreted?
This might sound like a hint that Java is a purely interpreted language. However, before execution, Java source code needs to be compiled into bytecode. Bytecode is a special machine language native to the JVM. The JVM interprets and executes this code at runtime.
Is bytecode and assembly language?
To run on a computer, Java is translated or compiled to assembly language, which is then run on the CPU, because CPUs can only run assembly language). Java is compiled to something called bytecode. Bytecode is something like an assembly language. It’s not a real assembly language.
How is bytecode and assembly language the same thing?
Java bytecode is quite high-level abstraction language compared to most of CPUs machine codes, having very tiny overlap of the instructions and memory model. The only similarity is, that bytecode is stored in binary form, just like machine code. The JVM is interpreter in principle, ie. it translates the bytecode on the fly into machine code.
Is the compiler in Java an assembly language?
It is more appropriate to say that a compiler uses INTERMEDIATE CODE which may or may not be assembly language e.g. Java uses byte code as intermediate code and byte code is assembler for java virtual machine (JVM).
How is Java bytecode different from machine code?
Java bytecode is quite high-level abstraction language compared to most of CPUs machine codes, having very tiny overlap of the instructions and memory model. The only similarity is, that bytecode is stored in binary form, just like machine code.
Is it possible to translate assembler to object code?
Translating assembler to object code is a pretty simple process, at least compared with compilation. Some compilers produce other high-level language code as their output – for example, cfront, the first C++ compiler produced C as its output which was then compiled by a C compiler.
