Do I need Raspbian for Pi-hole?
Prerequisites. To deploy Pi-hole on your home network, make sure you have all of the following: A Raspberry Pi with at least 512MB of RAM (all Raspberry Pi versions satisfy this requirement) and Raspbian installed. An SD-card with at least 2GB of free space.
What happens if Pi-hole is down?
If you have Pi-hole as your only DNS server and it fails, your network will stop working and you (technically) wouldn’t be able to browse the Web. So many people set a secondary DNS server in a fashion similar to the screenshot below.

There’s not really much to say about Pi-hole’s ability to block ads other than it’s utterly excellent. It just works. Web browsing with Pi-hole is a faster, less cluttered, cleaner experience. In my experience, Pi-hole is 100% effective at bypassing Ad blocker detection.
