Do new CV axles make noise?
When your CV joints are not well-lubricated, it will increase the friction, preventing your CV axle to freely rotate. If your CV joints are not lubricated enough, it can cause your joints to make noise each time the axle starts turning. You might not hear the noise only when driving at a low speed.
Can a bad CV axle cause squeaking?
As alluded to above, the sound of a bad CV joint is typically a clicking noise while turning – not a squeak. Glad you determined it was your lower control arm and got that fixed. Always a good idea to inspect your CV boots on a regular basis, as they do fail – especially the outer ones.
Why is my axle making noise?
If the issue is the CV Axle being worn out, the grinding noise will be deep and happen at low speeds usually as you are turning or stopping. The reason for this is the axle component is broken down and not articulating properly and stiffening the axle. Old worn out brake pads make a little different noise.
What does a bad drive axle sound like?
1. Loud clicking noises when turning. One of the most common and most noticeable symptoms of a bad or failing CV axle shaft assembly is an audible clicking noise when turning. The clicks may become louder or more pronounced during sharper and faster turns, and will be heard on the side with the faulty CV shaft.
Can a CV joint make a clicking noise?
I think the first symptom of a damaged CV joint can indeed be a clicking noise, usually when making a low speed turn, especially on acceleration; however, the problem could easily progress to more of a clunking noise as the internal CV joint parts– which are supposed to be in close contact – work themselves further apart.
Why does my car make a clunking noise when turning?
The car is in great shape and has been driving well. Drove it away, and it was running great. It is still running great (after driving all the way home) but, I noticed it is making a loud clunking, metal on metal kind of noise on the front left axle when in first gear, happens more when turning (I think right, but maybe both right and left).
How can I tell if my front axle is new?
Sometimes the only way to know this is to have the axle out of the car and on the bench for hands on inspection. The same procedure should be used at the parts store on a rebuilt or remanufactured axle before even leaving the store. This would not apply if the axle is really a brand new, never previousy used part.
