Do we need to determine the number of topics before we fit topic model?
We have everything required to train the LDA model. In addition to the corpus and dictionary, you need to provide the number of topics as well. Apart from that, alpha and eta are hyperparameters that affect sparsity of the topics. According to the Gensim docs, both defaults to 1.0/num_topics prior.
How do I choose the number of topics in LDA?
To decide on a suitable number of topics, you can compare the goodness-of-fit of LDA models fit with varying numbers of topics. You can evaluate the goodness-of-fit of an LDA model by calculating the perplexity of a held-out set of documents. The perplexity indicates how well the model describes a set of documents.
Which is the first step in topic modeling?
First step is loading packages, Data and Data pre-processing. We created dictionary and corpus required for Topic Modeling: The two main inputs to the LDA topic model are the dictionary and the corpus. Gensim creates a unique id for each word in the document.
How are text data related to topic models?
When working with topic models, it’s important to remember that these algorithms cannot guarantee that the words in each topic will be related to one another conceptually — only that they frequently occur together in your data for some reason. Text data naturally involve the variety, complexity, and context of language.
How is topic classification different from text modeling?
Well, as opposed to text modeling, topic classification needs to know the topics of a set of texts before analyzing them. Using these topics, data is tagged manually so that a topic classifier can learn and later make predictions by itself.
How is topic modeling used in customer reviews?
Topic modeling could be used to identify the topics of a set of customer reviews by detecting patterns and recurring words. Let’s take a look at how an ‘unsupervised’ technique would group the below review for Eventbrite, for example:
