Do you start off as a co-pilot?
Most airlines operate a seniority system for pilots. When you join the company, you start at the bottom of the list. As pilots retire off the top, you move up that list.
Does the co-pilot land the plane?
In the event of an emergency, it may be their job to land the plane safely and they must be ready to take over the aircraft controls at any time. Another challenging aspect of working as a copilot is the schedule. As with the rest of the flight crew, copilots must spend extended periods away from home.

When does a flight require a copilot?
I always assumed a copilot is required once civilian passengers are aboard, but when I recently was a passenger in South-African and South-American sight seeing flights, the pilot was always flying alone. Flights in europe however always had a pilot and copilot.
When does pilot and when does co pilot start?
Then, it is decided who will fly this leg of the journey, and that pilot assumes the control, and the other starts communicating with the tower/ground/dispatch and adjusting the various systems, etc.
What’s the job of a co pilot on a plane?
As far as I understand a co pilot’s job is to support the pilot. Do they talk to each other during the flight and decide that spontaneously or is the decision already done long time before a flight and how?
Who are the two pilots before the flight?
Before the flight starts, one of the two pilots is always the “PF” (Pilot Flying) whose job is to fly the aircraft, and the second pilot is “PA” (Pilot Assisting) whose job is to deal with the communications, aircraft systems and perform tasks as requested by the PF to assist them in flying the aircraft.
