Does every switch have a MAC address?
A MAC Address is given by the manufacturer and it is embedded in the chip that allows your device to connect to a network. For a network switch, it is likely to have many MAC addresses, since one MAC address is assigned to every interface on the switch.
How does a switch get a MAC address?
A switch can learn MAC address in two ways; statically or dynamically. In the static option, we have to add the MAC addresses in the CAM table manually. In the dynamic option, the switch learns and adds the MAC addresses in the CAM table automatically. The switch stores the CAM table in the RAM.
How does a switch know the MAC addresses of connected devices?
A switch builds its MAC address table by recording the MAC address of each device connected to each of its ports. The switch uses the information in the MAC address table to send frames destined for a specific device out the port, which has been assigned to that device.
Do Cisco switches have MAC address?
Yes, each switchport has it’s own MAC address, I think this is how the switch itself (ASICS) makes forwarding decisions. If you are using a L3 switch, every port can be configured as a routed port which needs a MAC address.
Does port have MAC address?
Like all Ethernet interfaces, every port on a switch has a unique factory-assigned MAC address. As each frame is received on each port, the switching software looks at the source address of the frame and adds that source address to a table of addresses that the switch maintains.
Does router have MAC address?
MAC addresses are a unique number or identifier built into modems, routers and other network hardware. To fix this, you will need to configure the router to pretend to have the same MAC address as the ISP “approved” computer, instead of its own.
Does a switch have an IP address?
But since the switch does not have the capability to assign IP addresses, the computers connected to it will not be able to communicate with each other. They will get an Automatic Private IP Address (APIPA). You need to assign a static IP address to your computers.
Does an unmanaged switch have its own MAC address?
No unmanaged switch will have a MAC address. A Managed Switch will have at least one for the management port. A layer three switch (which is a router) will have at least a MAC address per IP address and perhaps one per port. NONE of them need MAC addresses to be a switch.

Do switches have MAC addresses?
Switches also use MAC addresses to make accurate forwarding and filtering decision. When the switch receives a frame, it associates the media access control (MAC) address of the sending device with the interface on which it was received.
