Does Intel Optane work with Linux?
System acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory is supported on the Windows* 10 64-bit operating system. It is not supported on any other operating systems, including Linux.

Can I install OS on Intel Optane?
Can I install Windows 7* on the Intel® Optane™ memory volume now? No. System acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory is only supported on the Windows 10 64-bit operating system. The drivers that support and manage this volume aren’t supported on any other operating systems.
Does Optane replace RAM?
Intel® Optane™ memory comes in the M. 2 form factor and will not be used in the DIMM/ DRAM memory slots. As such, it will not replace the current RAM that you have in place. A computer with both Intel® Optane™ memory and DRAM can access programs and data faster, providing additional performance and responsiveness.
What is meant by 16GB Optane?
It’s a long-term, smart memory technology that remembers your most frequently accessed files, programs, and applications. In fact, when compared with an HDD with 16GB of DRAM, an HDD with 16GB of Intel Optane memory is up to twice as responsive on a desktop and more than twice as responsive on a laptop [3].
Is Windows installed on Optane?
The Optane drive does not show up in Windows and only works when you install the Intel Optane software. You need to get a regular NVME drive.
Does Intel Optane work with NVMe?
Intel is now supporting using Optane Memory SSDs to cache other NVMe SSDs, with an eye toward the combination of Optane and QLC NAND flash. They’ve put both types of SSD onto a single M. The caching is managed entirely in software, and the host system accesses the Optane and QLC sides of the H10 independently.
Is 16GB Optane memory enough?
Optane Memory tends to either work great (all the important data is in the cache) or only okay (some data is on slower storage). Technically, the Optane Memory drives have different performance depending on whether you have the 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB models, but I don’t generally recommend the 16GB option.
Do you need a platform for Intel Optane Memory?
Mobile platform support is only with the Intel® Optane™ memory M10 modules. You must use this chipset in a platform (system/motherboard) that contains the proper BIOS support. Consult your motherboard/system vendor for more information.
Do you need RST driver for Optane Memory?
To enable system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory, you need the appropriate Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver and applications.
Can a Optane Memory Volume accelerate a RAID volume?
Intel® Optane™ memory can’t accelerate a RAID volume. An Intel® Optane™ memory volume can reside in the same system as a RAID volume. In a system with this configuration, we recommend using the Intel® RST application to manage your RAID volume and Intel® Optane™ memory volume.
