Does Multicollinearity affect PCA?
The basic idea is to run a PCA on all predictors. Their ratio, the Condition Index, will be high if multicollinearity is present.
Can I apply PCA for categorical variables?
While it is technically possible to use PCA on discrete variables, or categorical variables that have been one hot encoded variables, you should not. Simply put, if your variables don’t belong on a coordinate plane, then do not apply PCA to them. There are good times to apply PCA.
What is cointegration method?
Cointegration is a statistical method used to test the correlation between two or more non-stationary time series in the long-run or for a specified time period. The method helps in identifying long-run parameters or equilibrium for two or more sets of variables.
Projecting data back onto the bases found by PCA has the effect of whitening the data, (or de-correlating them). That is the whole point behind PCA. From my understanding correlated variables are ok, because PCA outputs vectors that are orthogonal.
The original Y axis points to the right. The resulting tilting also stretches the points out along the YZ directions, thereby doubling their contribution to the variance. Consequently, a PCA of these new data would still identify two major principal components, but now one of them will have twice the variance of the other.
Which is the best example of cointegration theory?
Cointegration theory is de\fnitely the innovation in theoretical econometrics that has cre-ated the most interest among economists in the last decade. The de\fnition in the simple caseof 2 time series xt andyt, that are both integrated of order one (this is abbreviated I(1), andmeans that the process contains a unit root), is the following:
Is the unit root test a cointegration test?
Note, that since the unit root tests test the null-hypothesis of a unit root, most cointegration tests test the Null of no cointegration. Unfortunately the limiting distribution of for ex- ample the t-test, does not have the limiting distribution tabulated by Dickey and Fuller.
