Does REST API support links?
Basically, it means that a REST API provides hyperlinks with each response that link to other related resources. In the diagram above, each node is a URL within our API and each edge is a link relating one URL with another. Hypermedia means that those links will be returned together with the actual response payload.
Which of the following are reasons to use linking as part of a REST API response design?
Why use Linking Linking can help with discoverability and use-case scalability. Presenting the fully qualified URL for every resource aids discoverability by allowing for new resources to be consumed by just embedding a new reference (link).
What are the links in the REST API?
While the REST API does not completely conform to the entire HAL standard, it implements the ._links and ._embedded properties from that standard as described below. The _links property of the response object contains a map of links to other API resources, grouped by “relation.”
How are resources identified in RESTful API design?
Identifies the unique ID of a resource. Identifies the URL of the current resource. Identifies a relationship for a resource. This attribute is itself an object and has “rel” “href” attributes. Apart from application data, and REST metadata, sometimes other data is required as well.
How are representations returned in a REST API?
Multiple endpoints that return the same representations can also lead to problems with caching and can violate one of the core principles of RESTful API design. This problem can be solved via HTTP redirects, so all representations are returned from a central root resource and can be cached, but there is still code needed to implement this.
Is the WP REST API compatible with Hal?
The WP REST API incorporates hyperlinking throughout the API to allow discoverability and browsability, as well as embedding related resources together in one response. While the REST API does not completely conform to the entire HAL standard, it implements the._links and._embedded properties from that standard as described below.
