Does Spdif work with optical?
SPDIF can be used with optical cables and coaxial cables while the optical port can only be used with optical cables alone. Optical and SPDIF outputs are both digital connections (the RCA connector found in coaxial cables used in SPDIF shouldn’t be confused with the analog RCA format).
Can I connect Spdif to ADAT?
If you choose to connect the S/PDIF in/outs it will work, but not the way you expect: you can only use the 2×2 S/PDIF input/output channels, i.e. none of the real input channels. You can’t get an “ADAT port only” device either.
Can I use any optical cable for ADAT?
You can use digital optical cables for almost anything, including transferring audio from your TV to a home stereo system. Optical audio cables are compatible with 2-channel S/PDIF connections and ADAT connections.
Is optical SPDIF better than coaxial?
And, in our experience, compared to optical, a coaxial connection does tend to sound better. That’s because it has greater bandwidth available, meaning it can support higher quality audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. Optical is usually restricted to 96kHz.
How many channels is Spdif?
two channels
S/PDIF can carry two channels of uncompressed PCM audio or compressed 5.1/7.1 surround sound but cannot support lossless formats that require greater bandwidth.
Is ADAT better than Spdif?
Re: Is SPDIF sound quality identical as ADAT? As long as digital signal goes through, it is 100% clear. The difference between SPDIF/ADAT/AES is in now long cable runs you can do before you get dropouts.
What is the difference between ADAT and Spdif?
Visit Vegadark’s homepage! Re: whats the difference between adat optical and spdif optical? ADAT does 8 channels, S/PDIF carries two. Also, If you have the optical set for S/PDIF your co-ax S/PDIF is disabled on the 001.
What cable is used for ADAT connection?
Using a Toslink cable, connect the OPTICAL OUTPUT of your Scarlett to the external device’s ADAT input. Set all devices in the system to the same sample rate (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, etc.). Set your device’s clock settings so that all devices are receiving clock signal from a single master device.
What cable is used for ADAT?
ADAT optical uses the same type of optical cables as the TosLink two channel protocol. These cables can be purchased at your favorite local recording store.
Is the ADAT Lightpipe compatible with S / PDIF?
However, the data streams of the two protocols are totally incompatible. S/PDIF is mostly used for transferring stereo or multi-channel surround sound audio, whereas the ADAT optical interface supports up to 8 channels at 48 kHz, 24 bit. Lightpipe devices have been successfully interfaced via FireWire.
How many channels does ADAT Optical Interface protocol allow?
The ADAT Optical interface protocol, commonly referred to as “ADAT Lightpipe,” was developed to stream eight channels of 16-, 20-, or 24-bit digital audio at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, allowing multichannel digital transfers between ADAT digital recorders and other digital audio devices over a single fiber-optic cable.
What does adat stand for in audio category?
These days it has been shortened to ADAT, formerly the name of the original digital recorders, to refer to the 8 channel digital audio optical format.
What was the original name of the ADAT Lightpipe?
But Alesis adopted the format to deliver 8 channels of digital audio at 48K/24bit and was christened officially as the ADAT Optical Interface, and more commonly known at the time, as the ADAT Lightpipe.
