Does voltage on fuse matter?
Yes, very important! The voltage rating of the selected fuse must be greater than or equal to the circuit voltage. Since fuses have such low resistance, the voltage rating becomes critical only when the fuse is trying to open.
Can I use a 32V fuse instead of 250V?
Question: Will this 250v 4 amp fuse work to replace a 4amp 32v fuse (in an old amplifier/receiver)? Answer: 250V is the max current the fuse can take, it is fine as long as that rating is at or above the current being passed through the fuse, in this case 32V.
Do fuses affect sound quality?
So, yes, anything in line with the signal can affect the signal or sound. This pulsation is also not linear, so that also can affect the sound. That’s pretty much a short summings up on fuses in the audio path.
Why does voltage matter on a fuse or breaker?
In the strict sense, no. A fuse or breaker “blows” or trips because too many AMPS are flowing thru it. Normally this stops the flow of current or amps in the circuit. BUT IF the voltage in the circuit goes HIGH ENOUGH, the current will ARC right across the fuse or breaker.
Is it safe to use a higher voltage fuse?
I know from reading elsewhere that it’s safe to use a fuse with a higher voltage rating when replacing one, so long as the current rating and reaction speed is the same. For example, if a fuse is rated 125V 1A, then a 250V 1A can be used.
When does the voltage of a fuse come into play?
The voltage rating (and AC/DC specification) of the fuse comes into play only after the fuse opens. A fuse with inadequate voltage rating may be unable to quench the resulting arc, leading to rapid failure of the fuse.
Which is more expensive a fuse or circuit breaker?
However, if a circuit blows fuses on a regular basis, the accumulated replacement costs associated with labor and down time can make a fuse set considerably more expensive over the long run. Additionally, if a fuse set is specified as an integral part of a power disconnect, then the cost is comparable to the equivalent circuit breaker arrangement.
