How are runway lights powered?
Runway edge lights are powered by solar energy and connected wirelessly – no cables, no CCRs, no transformers are required. It is also applicable for temporary usage at big international airports with HIRL (high intensity runway lighting) as backup runway lighting during repair works and in case of electricity cuts.
Are runway lights recessed?
Runway edge lights are white, transitioning to amber near the departure end of the runway. The departure end is marked by red lights delineating the end of operational pavement. Recessed in-pavement runway lights, also white in color, are common at most large airports to provide enhanced runway visibility.
Are runway lights led?

How do Vasi lights work?
The individual lightboxes that make a VASI work are made of two light bulbs with a solid divider between them. The red light is below the white light. The box itself is mounted to the ground at the angle at which you want the light to change. So while the VASI sounds and looks pretty complicated, it’s very simple.

To activate the lights, the pilot clicks the radio transmit switch on the ARCAL frequency a certain number of times within a specified number of seconds. There are two types of ARCAL systems — type J and type K.
