How can I boost my CB radio signal?
There are several procedures for ensuring maximum output.
- TUNE THE RADIO. A CB radio is only as good as the coax and antenna connected to it.
- USE CB-SPECIFIC ANTENNAS.
- ESTABLISH A GROUND PLANE.
- CHECK THE VSWR.
- ELIMINATE RESISTANCE.
Why is my CB not transmitting?
Yep it’s sounding like it has a bad power or ground connection. A weak power or ground connection can provide enough power for the CB to turn on & receive but not be able to pass the additional power (current) required by the CB when it is trying to transmit.

Which is the best range for a SWR meter?
SWR 1.0-1.5: The ideal range! If your SWR is under 1.5, you’re in great shape. If you’re at 1.5 and really, really want to drop down to closer to 1 it’s likely possible to do with addition tuning, different equipment or a different mounting location. But the drop from 1.5 to 1.0 won’t make a substantial increase in performance.
What should my SWR reading be for my car?

A meter with a built in antenna matcher may help you reduce the readings if you can get it out of the red to start with – but you’ll need to make sure you don’t accidentally adjust the controls after you have set it up. Mark the settings and lock them by sticking tape over them (or similar) to prevent them moving.
