Low poly is a polygon mesh in 3D computer graphics that has a relatively small number of polygons. Low poly meshes occur in real-time applications (e.g. games) as contrast with high-poly meshes in animated movies and special effects of the same era.
How to convert from high poly to low poly?
Some tutorials and reference material: After you have a lower topology mesh you can bake normal maps etc. to make it appear more detailed than it really is. The following thread on the BlenderArtists forum has been going strong for the past 1.5 years and the discussion often turns to retopo.
Which is better a low poly or high poly mesh?
$\\begingroup$ The cage has to be larger than the high poly object. The low poly and high poly can be the same size. The cage itself acts as a boundary for the ray casting. Cages are most useful when trying to make a map for an object with sharp corners since it will help create a smooth transition around the edges.
How to create a high poly mesh in Blender?
I have created a low poly mesh in Blender. Now I would like to texture it in a different program. Therefore I would need a high poly model. When I add a “Smooth” modifier, nothing happens, my model still looks blocky. I expected my model to become smooth and the jagged edges would go away: Can somebody tell me how I would do this? Thank you!
Can you increase the size of a high poly bake?
You can increase the size of this but shouldn’t go over 2.0. Once this is done, select the high poly mesh and add it to source mesh, make sure normal map is selected and move the high poly mesh into the low poly mesh envelope. You then want to select where your normal map is going to be exported to and what type of file it is going to be.
