At high level, SharePoint 2013 patching process is done as follows:
- Get your current farm patch level.
- Download SharePoint 2013 service pack/CU/Hot-fix.
- Install binaries on SharePoint Servers.
- Run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard.
- Verify the updated build number of your SharePoint farm.
Every three years Microsoft releases the newer version of SharePoint (On-premise). The current SharePoint on-premise version is SharePoint 2019.
Is SharePoint 2013 still supported?
SHAREPOINT 2013 END OF SUPPORT DATE Microsoft will be ending their mainstream support for SharePoint 2013 by April 2018. The SharePoint end of life date for 2013 is 4/10/2018. This means that if you want support past that date, you will need to pay for it.

Are there any updates for SharePoint in Microsoft 365?
Last but not least: consider migrating your on-premises SharePoint farm to SharePoint in Microsoft 365 – here the complete patching effort and various other administrative tasks are handled by Microsoft for you. This version of SharePoint is out of support and no updates (including security updates) are released for this version anymore.
