How do I make NFS highly available?
To create highly available NFS export resources, use the exportfs resource type. Pacemaker will export the NFS virtual file system root and the two other exports.
What is an NFS cluster?
An active/passive NFS Server in a Red Hat High Availability Cluster. The procedure uses pcs to configure Pacemaker cluster resources. In this use case, clients access the NFS file system through a floating IP address. The NFS server runs on one of two nodes in the cluster.
Is NFS resilient?
The NFSv3 protocol is a stateless protocol, which is resilient to the low bandwidth and lossy networks. The current recommended transport protocol for AFM data transfers is NFS, due to the tolerance of NFS to unstable network connections.
What is high availability setup?
HA configuration overview The purpose of an HA configuration is to reduce downtime when a zone or instance becomes unavailable. This might happen during a zonal outage, or when an instance becomes corrupted. The HA configuration, sometimes called a cluster, provides data redundancy.
What is Parallel NFS?
Parallel NFS (pNFS) is a part of the NFS v4. 1 standard that allows compute clients to access storage devices directly and in parallel. The pNFS architecture eliminates the scalability and performance issues associated with NFS servers deployed today.
Can you load balance NFS?
NFS load balancing is recommended only for sessions where clients are performing read requests to the servers. This is because the BIG-IP system will load balance a client NFS connection (mapping) to a single server.
Is NFS a parallel file system?
Today, NFS (through the pNFS extension) provides scalable access to files distributed across a network. Parallel File Systems often use dedicated servers to store metadata and the data is read/written to multiple storage device using multiple I/O paths concurrently.
How are NFS servers used in high availability?
I am in a situation where I would like to provide NFS servers in high availability. The setup I currently have is a VMware enviroment, with shared storage via a SAN using iSCSI. Simply, I have a server that will be debian/centos serving up an NFS share to several physical servers that require access to this shared datastore.
How to setup two NFS servers in Debian?
To the outside (e.g. the web server nodes) these two NFS servers will appear as a single NFS server. In this setup I will use Debian Sarge (3.1) for the two NFS servers as well as for the NFS client (which represents a node of the web server cluster).
Where does the NFS server in red hat go?
The NFS server runs on one of two nodes in the cluster. If the node on which the NFS server is running becomes inoperative, the NFS server starts up again on the second node of the cluster with minimal service interruption.
Can a NFS server mirror a web server?
In fact, in this tutorial I will create two NFS servers that mirror their data to each other in realtime using DRBD and that monitor each other using heartbeat, and if one NFS server fails, the other takes over silently. To the outside (e.g. the web server nodes) these two NFS servers will appear as a single NFS server.
