How do I power my Raspberry Pi touch screen?
Power only the Raspberry Pi, and connect the 5v GPIO pins to the power input pins on the display adapter. This is probably the simplest and most common method. Power only the display, and use a Type-A USB to micro-USB cable to connect the power output of the display adapter to the power input of the Raspberry Pi.

However, if you apply power to your Pi via one of the standard methods (e.g. the micro USB port), then apply power to USB ports and remove the original supply, it will stay on and functional. It should be noted that USB ports have a current limit of 500mA, so we would not recommend you attempt to supply more than this via the USB!
