How do I protect my NTP Server?
Some steps that can be taken to mitigate this:
- Actively monitor system logs.
- Configure your NTP clients to ignore the panic threshold on restart.
- If you’re already using multiple NTP servers, increase the minimum number of servers required before the NTP clients adjust the clocks.
How do I find the best NTP server?
In most cases it’s best to use pool.ntp.org to find an NTP server (or 0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, etc if you need multiple server names). The system will try finding the closest available servers for you.
How many NTP servers should I have?
To work properly ntpd needs to talk to at least 3 servers (“A man with a watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure”). For servers in the pool we recommend configuring no less than 4 and no more than 7 servers.

How does NTP time server on your network work?
NTP (Network Time Protocol) is a network protocol that enables you to synchronize clocks on devices over a network. It works by using one or more NTP servers that maintain a highly accurate time, and allows clients to query for that time. These client devices query the server, then automatically adjust their own internal clock to mirror
Is the NTP service built into Windows XP?
Things like: Luckily Windows has taken this into account. The Network Time Protocol (NTP) service has been built into Windows since Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and most Unix and Linux implementations have supported NTP since they were first built.
What kind of NTP server does netburner use?
The NetBurner GPS NTP Server is a Stratum 1 device connected directly to a GPS time module. Stratum 0 devices are devices such as atomic, GPS, and radio clocks. These devices offer the highest accuracy, but are not usually publicly accessible.
Can a non-domain joined server use NTP?
Unfortunately most Windows implementations do not use NTP as it is not enabled in many situations. One of those situations is a non-domain joined server. An unjoined system can function as both a NTP server and client, but it doesn’t do either by default.
