How do I restore a mirrored database?
To Prepare an Existing Mirror Database to Restart Mirroring
- Take at least one log backup on the principal database. For more information, see Back Up a Transaction Log (SQL Server).
- On the mirror database, use RESTORE WITH NORECOVERY to restore all log backups taken on the principal database since mirroring was removed.
Can we take backup of mirrored database?
Yes, it’s possible. In fact it’s no less important to perform backups the same as if mirroring weren’t enabled since the database is in the FULL recovery model. No changes have to be made to perform the backups. Mirroring doesn’t change the LSN’s either.
How do I manually failover a mirror in SQL Server?
To manually fail over database mirroring
- Connect to the principal server instance and, in the Object Explorer pane, click the server name to expand the server tree.
- Expand Databases, and select the database to be failed over.
- Right-click the database, select Tasks, and then click Mirror.

Try forcing the database to come online. That should bring the database online which should then allow you to remove mirroring and drop the database (or do whatever else you need to do with it). Error 3456 is an LSN mismatch error and indicates a corrupted database.
