How do I solder a QFP package?
Put a small amount of solder on the tip of the solder iron. While holding down the aligned QFP with a pick or other pointed tool, add a small amount of solder flux to the corner leads in two opposite corners. While still holding the part down with the pick, solder down two opposite corner leads on the QFP.
What is the difference between QFN and QFP?
The pins on a QFP IC are usually spaced by anywhere from 0.4mm to 1mm. The connections on QFN packages are tiny, exposed pads on the bottom corner edges of the IC. Sometimes they wrap around, and are exposed on both the side and bottom, other packages only expose the pad on the bottom of the chip.
What is fine pitch soldering?
Fine Pitch: Used when referring to surface-mount components with a lead pitch of 25 mils or less. Structures that use solder bumpers without leads to hold interconnected circuits face down on a pcb with solder bumpers without leads.
How do you solder an electrolytic capacitor?
Soldering SMD electrolytic capacitors using a soldering iron
- Put some solder paste onto the pads (we’re soldering C18 here).
- Place the cap carefully onto the pads (mind the orientation!).
- Clean your tip thoroughly (!) and put a tiny bit of leaded solder onto one side to transfer the heat a bit better.
What’s the best way to solder a QFN?
Note that the best way to solder this chip is to use solder paste, a stencil and hot air (or a toaster oven or skillet), but we’ll be demonstrating a technique that doesn’t require either paste or a stencil. New: Video Demonstrating Soldering a QFN using Hot Air without Solder Paste.
Which is the small outline no lead ( son ) or quad flat QFN?
The small outline no-lead (SON)/quad flat no-lead (QFN) is a small size, lead-less plastic package with a low profile, moderate thermal dissipation, and good electrical performance.
How are the QFN and son packages assembled?
The QFN/SON package are assembled using two different methods: • The sawn-type is molded in a single mold cavity or mold array process (MAP) and separated into individual packages during a final saw process. • The punch-type is molded in individual cavities and separated using a punch tool.
Why is the die attach pad exposed on a QFN?
QFN/SON are also designed with the die attach pad exposed at the bottom side to create an efficient heat path to the PCB. Heat transfer can be further facilitated by metal vias in the thermal land pattern of the PCB. The exposed pad also enables ground connection.
