The procedure is as follows:
- Backup your system.
- Update existing packages and reboot the Debian 9.

Does Debian update automatically?

Should I upgrade to Debian 10?
Debian is a popular version, or fork, of the Linux operating system. The most recently released version is Debian 10, codenamed Buster. The newer version offers a longer support period and new features, so it is highly recommended to upgrade if running Debian 9.
How long will Debian 9 be supported?

Debian 9 will also receive Long Term Support for five years after its initial release with support ending on June 30, 2022. The supported architectures remain amd64, i386, armel and armhf. In addition we are pleased to announce, for the first time support will be extended to include the arm64 architecture.
How long will Debian Buster be supported?
Reminder: the EOL date for the stable release is the date of the next stable release plus one year. For example, Debian bullseye (“buster +1”) was released on 2021-08-14 so Debian buster’s EOL is around 2022-08.
