How do you adjust the current on a stepper motor?
Adjusting the current of a stepper driver is easy, just turn the small potentiometer with a tiny flat head screw driver. Be very careful though. Do not short your screw driver to any of the terminals of the stepper driver as you may cause damage to your stepper driver.
How do you limit a motor current?
4 Answers
- Make sure the load is never so high that the motor stalls or overloads.
- Make sure that the voltage is so low that the current through the windings will never be higher than rated.
- Use a current controller to drive the motor that can limit the current at the given maximum.
How do you calculate VREF?
VREF = Amax x 8 x Rsense; Rsense – The A4988 boards are based on the Pololu board and therefore use a resense value of 0.05.
How is current measured on a stepper motor?
While it is called stepper current what is really measured is the voltage that the driver itself is putting out. What you are actually adjusting is the vref input voltage to the stepper motor driver. This tells the driver what its output current should be. So, you are adjusting the stepper motor current, but indirectly.
What kind of motor does a pancake stepper use?
Recently bought a Nema 17 stepper pancake motor to replace the Ender 3 extrusion stepper. It’s only used for direct extrusion with a BMG 3/1 gear ratio, which leads me to believe it doesn’t need a lot of juice to have it work optimally.
Why is the stepper driver current so important?
So, you are adjusting the stepper motor current, but indirectly. There are several reasons that adjusting the stepper driver current is important.
How to adjust stepper driver current in 3D?
To do this hook the clamp end of the black wire on the power supply ground then take the red lead and touch to the positive side of the incoming power either at the power supply like I did in the picture or on the control board itself. Now if you are using a 12 volt power supply then this should ready 12-13 volts normally.
