How to bake Mesh maps
- Open the Texture Set Settings window:
- Inside the Texture Set Settings window, click the Bake Mesh Maps button to open the Baker Settings window:
- Click the Bake selected textures or Bake “Your Material Name” button at the bottom of the Baker Settings window to start the process:
What is baking to texture?
Texture baking is the process of transferring texture data from one 3D model to another 3D model. Generally speaking, people are doing this when they are trying to take a high-poly model and convert it to a low-poly model.

How are curvature and concavity maps used in baking?
Curvature maps are useful for generating masks for scratches, recessed dirt, and other effects. The Concavity output, also known as cavity, bakes a map of the concave surfaces, or cracks and pits. Concavity maps are useful for masking ambient light or generating texture effects such as dirt, dust and grime.
How to calculate the curvature of an edge?
If the edge has positions p1, p2 and normals n1, n2, then I estimated its curvature as: This calculates the difference in normals, projected along the edge, as a fraction of the length of the edge. (See below for how I came up with this formula.)
How does baking work on a 3D mesh?
Baking is the process of saving information from a 3D mesh, to a texture file (bitmap). Most of the time this process involves two meshes. In this case, the information of the first mesh (the high poly) is transferred onto the second mesh (the low poly) and then saved into a texture.
Where to find hidden meshes in toolbag baking?
When enabling more outputs, be sure to click the material preview button again to see the additional maps. You can find various global mesh settings in the Geometry tab. Use Hidden Meshes determines whether objects hidden in the outliner will contribute to the baked result.
