How do you find bathymetric data?
The USGS has made bathymetric surveys for many coastal areas and for selected rivers and lakes in the U.S., including Yellowstone Lake, Crater Lake, and Lake Tahoe. Information and data for those studies is on the USGS Maps of America’s Submerged Lands website.
What is topographical data?
Topographic data are information about the elevation of the surface of the Earth. The first are data that represent the information typically found on a topographic quadrangle map, such as contour lines, roads, streams, railroads, towns, etc.
What is bathymetric data?
Bathymetry is the study and mapping of the sea floor. It involves obtaining measurements of the depth of the ocean and is the equivalent to mapping topography on land. Bathymetric data is used for a range of purposes including: charting and ship navigation.
What are the three main types of topography?

NOAA provides blackline copies of compilation manuscripts for bathymetric maps that were left in the production process but are sufficiently developed to include accurate bathymetric data. There are no plans to have these maps published.
