How do you get condensate breath?
The instructions below detail each of the four steps:
- Step 1: Condense Exhaled Breath using the RTube.
- Step 2: Store/Transport Condensate.
- Step 3: Use the Plunger to Collect EBC into a Pool at the Top of the RTube.
- Step 4: Analyze the Sample.
What is the pH of exhaled breath?
Exhaled breath condensate pH at tidal breathing in this healthy group of subjects was 8.19±0.13; during hyperventilation the mean pH was 8.20±0.14; and during hypoventilation the mean pH was 8.14±0.15 (p=ns).
Is exhaled air acidic?

The primary constituents of EBC include: Aerosolised particles of airway lining fluid collected from the airways induced by airflow, probably by turbulence. Water vapour condensation produced around the aerosolised particles. Water-soluble volatile gases dissolved into the water vapor condensate.

Condensate is a mixture of light liquid hydrocarbons, similar to a very light (high API) crude oil. It is typically separated out of a natural gas stream at the point of production (field separation) when the temperature and pressure of the gas is dropped to atmospheric conditions.

Does your breath condensate?
