Sand out the stain If you are looking to save some time, then a much easier option is to use an orbital or belt sander. What protects wood surfaces?

Coarse grits (those under #100) damage a fine wood finish. Medium grits, such as #120 and #150, are useful for removing old finish or scratches. Fine grits, such as #220, are frequently used for a final light sanding just before applying stain to the wood.
What are planer marks?
The marks are from the bandsaw that milled the board out of a log. You would need to plane it more to remove those. Then use a random orbital sander to removed the marks made by the plane. Even an actual planer would leave those marks if you didn’t take enough wood off when you send it through.
