How stress is calculated in FEA?
Both stresses and strains are calculated as post-processing quantities once a converged solution is obtained for the nodal displacements. Stress and strain are calculated at the Gauss points and further on projected to the nodal points.
What is von Mises stress in FEA?
Von Mises stress is a value used to determine if a given material will yield or fracture. The von Mises yield criterion states that if the von Mises stress of a material under load is equal or greater than the yield limit of the same material under simple tension then the material will yield.
