How do you reduce replica lag?
To mitigate replication lag for large operations we use batching. We never apply a change to 100,000 rows all at once. Any big update is broken into small segments, subtasks, of some 50 or 100 rows each. As an example, say our app needs to purge some rows that satisfy a condition from a very large table.
Why did my Amazon Aurora Read replica fall behind and restart?
Reader nodes can fall behind or restart due to a brief interruption in networking. The Aurora Replica can fall behind due to network saturation because of a large volume of changes or brief moments of Inter-AZ packet loss. This is useful when network saturation is evident.
What causes replica lag?
Replication lag occurs when the slaves (or secondaries) cannot keep up with the updates occuring on the master (or primary). Unapplied changes accumulate in the slaves’ relay logs and the version of the database on the slaves becomes increasingly different from that of the master.
What is RDS replica lag?
Amazon RDS allows you to gain visibility into how far a read replica has fallen behind its source DB instance. The number of seconds that the read replica is behind the master is published as an Amazon CloudWatch metric (“Replica Lag”) available via the AWS Management Console or Amazon CloudWatch APIs.
What is replica lag?
What should I do if my replication lag is too high?
If lag is higher than desired, we throttle: we stall the operation, and keep polling lag until we’re satisfied it is low enough for us. The app needs a way to identify production serving replicas. The app needs to be able to gather lag information from those replicas.
Why does replication lag with asynchronous replication?
With asynchronous replication, changes we make to the master are not immediately reflected on replicas. Each replica pulls changes from its master and replays them as fast as it can.
What happens when you stop replication of Read replicas?
If you have multiple read replicas, and if you promote one of them to be your primary server, other replica servers are still connected to the old primary. You may have to recreate replicas from the new, promoted server. When you stop replication, the replica loses all links to its previous primary and other replicas.
Why does MySQL lag when writing to Read Replica?
If a high volume of writes to the source DB instance occurs in parallel, the writes to the read replica are serialized using a single SQL_THREAD. This can cause a lag between the source DB instance and read replica. Multi-threaded (parallel) replication is available for MySQL 5.6, MySQL 5.7, and higher versions.
