How do you simulate load on a circuit?
Circuit Load Simulator
- Disconnect the suspect component and connect the simulator to the vehicle connector.
- Select the type of load to simulate and press START.
- Activate the test circuit, in seconds the unit dynamically load tests power and ground wiring.
How will you check the loads of power supply?
Use the formula for power: Power = Voltage x Current, or P = VI. If you are trying to calculate the minimum load and you happen to only know the power and voltage ratings of your power supply, you can use the formula P = V2/R, which can become R = V2/P.
What is the maximum load?
Also known as Peak Load, this is the highest load produced during an impact test. Quite often this point may also correspond to the onset of material damage or complete failure.
How can I test my computer power supply?
Begin with the 3.3V wire (orange) on the far left, then the 5V wire (red), the +12V wire (yellow), and the -12V wire (blue). Many power supplies will not stay on unless the output reaches a certain minimum power requirement. To test if your power supply has this requirement, press the power button and wait for a few minutes.
What kind of meter should I use to test my power supply?
Electronic or dynamic load capable of handling your system requirements: voltage and current. A programmable version with load-step capability is preferred. Two volt meters, accurate to the desired specifications. Two current meters, or low Ohm power resistors with additional voltmeters.
How big is the resistor on an ATX power supply?
ATX supplies are supposed to be well regulated. There is a footprint for a 9 Watt 10ohm load resistor on the 5 volt rail. Some older ATX supplies won’t start without some sort of load.
How is the start up of a power supply measured?
Following is a basic method of measuring the time it takes for a power supply to start up after input voltage is applied, and how to measure start-up overshoot on the output. On a related note, the faster the start-up of a power circuit, the higher the inrush current.
