How do you test for mutations?
Mutation testing is done by selecting a set of mutation operators and then applying them to the source program one at a time for each applicable piece of the source code. The result of applying one mutation operator to the program is called a mutant.
Where is mutation testing used?
Mutation testing is typically used to conduct unit tests. The goal is for the software test to be able to detect all mutated code. Changes (called mutations) can be implemented by making modifications to an existing line of code to a different value.
What is mutation testing example?
Example: Initial Code: int mod = 1000000007; int a = 12345678; int b = 98765432; int c = (a + b) % mod; Changed Code: int mod = 1007; int a = 12345678; int b = 98765432; int c = (a + b) % mod; Decision Mutations: In decisions mutations are logical or arithmetic operators are changed to detect errors in the program.
What is mutating a value in Python?
Mutating methods are ones that change the object after the method has been used. Non-mutating methods do not change the object after the method has been used. The count and index methods are both non-mutating. Count returns the number of occurrences of the argument given but does not change the original string or list.
What is mutate list?
Lists are immutable. There’s no way to change an element of a list from one value to another. Instead, OCaml programmers create new lists out of old lists.
Why do you need to use mutation testing?
If the test fails, then there is no error in the code, and the mutant was killed. Our goal is to kill all mutants. Mutation testing also helps to test the quality of the defined test cases or the test suites with a bid to write more effective test cases. The more mutants we can kill, the higher the quality of our tests.
What are the different types of mutation testing?
#1) Mutants: It is simply the mutated version of the source code. It is the code that contains minute changes. When the test data is run through the mutant, it should ideally give us different results from the original source code. Mutants are also called mutant programs. There are different types of mutants.
How are mutants killed in a mutation test?
Killed Mutants: These are mutants that are killed after mutation testing. We get these when we get different results from the original and mutated versions of the source code. Equivalent Mutants: These are closely related to live mutants, in that, they are ‘alive’ even after running test data through them.
How are mutation operators used in security testing?
For example, the muJava tool offers various class-level mutation operators such as Access Modifier Change, Type Cast Operator Insertion, and Type Cast Operator Deletion. Mutation operators have also been developed to perform security vulnerability testing of programs. ^ a b c d Richard A. DeMillo, Richard J. Lipton, and Fred G. Sayward.
