- Check whether ARP broadcast is enabled on the sub-interface.
- Check the number of ARP entries on the device.
- Check whether multiple IP addresses map the same MAC address in the ARP table.
- Check whether STP is disabled.
What is an ARP issue?
ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) is the portion of the TCP/IP Stack that maps IP Addresses to MAC Addresses. Then the IP Address is passed thru the local ARP Cache to get the MAC Address for the device. If the ARP mapping cannot be resolved locally, an ARP Request is sent out.

The customer stated after connecting the AdTran router, the connections to the ISPs were dropped. He then needed to remove the AdTran router connections from the ISP switch, and clear the ARP table on the ASA. We never got a chance to see the issues while happening — the customer tested it without asking us to watch.
