The keyboard settings in the sysconfig folder are correctly set to UK settings and all keys work except backslash. I’m working on a Dell iDRAC7 virtual console. The keyboard works fine on my ubuntu host machine. Has anyone experienced something like this/ something similar? The problem is with the iDRAC app.

I had the same problem with the German keyboard. Press the key <>| and Alt and Strg key together. It works! You see, there is already the vertical line sign on the double arrow key if you notice clearly. Re-reading your question, I looked at some standard German Keyboard layouts and you have the <>| key in the bottom left hand corner of the layout.
