How do you use atoms in Clojure?
Changes to atoms are always free of race conditions. As with all reference types, the intended use of atom is to hold one of Clojure’s immutable data structures. And, similar to ref’s alter and agent’s send, you change the value by applying a function to the old value. This is done in an atomic manner by swap!
Are atoms mutable?
It is a single value, and it will always be the same. That means threads can share the value with no worries that one of them will change it. The state is the atom. It’s a mutable object.
What is Deref Clojure?
Welcome to the Clojure Deref! This is a new periodic (thinking bi-weekly) link/news roundup for the Clojure ecosystem. We’ll be including links to Clojure articles, Clojure libraries, and when relevant, what’s happening in the Clojure core team.
What is a symbol in Clojure?
Symbols in Clojure are just pieces of data. From an implementation perspective they’re instances of clojure.
What is an atom in Clojure?
Atoms are a data type in Clojure that provide a way to manage shared, synchronous, independent state. An atom is just like any reference type in any other programming language. The primary use of an atom is to hold Clojure’s immutable datastructures. The value held by an atom is changed with the swap!
Why is Clojure popular?
Clojure is a practical and pragmatic language. It helps to organize a fast and efficient software development process. So, I can recommend it for rapid prototyping and lean startups. It’s an important feature for building extensible and flexible systems.

What is a macro in Clojure?
Clojure has a programmatic macro system which allows the compiler to be extended by user code. Macros can be used to define syntactic constructs which would require primitives or built-in support in other languages. Many core constructs of Clojure are not, in fact, primitives, but are normal macros.
What is Clojure spec?
spec is a Clojure library to describe the structure of data and functions. Specs can be used to validate data, conform (destructure) data, explain invalid data, generate examples that conform to the specs, and automatically use generative testing to test functions. Rationale – https://clojure.org/about/spec.
How do I read Clojure?
Here are three really important ways experts read Clojure.
- Focus on the first thing after the parens. In Ruby code, your eyes often use punctuation to find the meaning of code.
- Indentation means scoping. Another common complaint is how much nesting is done in Lisps.
- Learn the evaluation direction.
Is Clojure better than Python?
Clojure and Python can be primarily classified as “Languages” tools. “It is a lisp”, “Concise syntax” and “Persistent data structures” are the key factors why developers consider Clojure; whereas “Great libraries”, “Readable code” and “Beautiful code” are the primary reasons why Python is favored.
