How do you use ultrasonic sensor in Lego Mindstorm?
Introduce the simple use of the Ultrasonic Sensor. Demonstrate the Wait Block and how to use it with the Ultrasonic Sensor….DETECT OBJECTS AND STOP
- Start the program.
- Turn both motors on at speed 50.
- Wait for the Ultrasonic Sensor to detect an obstacle at a distance of less than 20 cm.
- Turn both motors off.
How does the NXT ultrasonic sensor work?
The Ultrasonic Sensor uses the same scientific principle as bats: it measures distance by calculating the time it takes for a sound wave to hit an object and return – just like an echo. Large sized objects with hard surfaces return the best readings.
What does the Lego Mindstorms ultrasonic sensor do?
LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor The digital EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor generates sound waves and reads their echoes to detect and measure distance from objects. It can also send single sound waves to work as sonar or listen for a sound wave that triggers the start of a program.
How does the ultrasonic sensor work in Lego Mindstorms?
The program uses the Wait block in the Ultrasonic Sensor – Compare – Distance Inches mode to wait for the detected distance to become less than 10 inches. If the Ultrasonic Sensor is facing forward, the robot will stop about 10 inches before a wall.
How does an ultrasonic sensor help a robot?
A new sensor is introduced – the Ultrasonic distance sensor can help the robot avoid obstacles. Students work with new concepts like loop, degrees and medium motor. Robots can now do two different actions at the same time – while solving missions on a field, the third motor clears detected obstacles. The first robot with chain-treads is built.
How does an ultrasonic sensor measure the distance?
The Ultrasonic Sensor can measure the distance to an object in front of it. It does this by sending out sound waves and measuring how long it takes the sound to reflect back to the sensor. The sound frequency is too high for you to hear (“ultrasonic”).
