Most push button switches function in the same way. Pressure is placed on the button or actuator, resulting in the depression of the internal spring and contacts and the touching of stable contacts at the bottom of the switch. This process will either close or open the electrical circuit.
What is a push button in a circuit?
A push switch (button) is a momentary or non-latching switch which causes a temporary change in the state of an electrical circuit only while the switch is physically actuated. When the button is released, the circuit is broken. This type of switch is also known as a Normally Open (NO) Switch.
A pushbutton is one kind of switch, a mechanical device that connects or breaks a circuit. To optionally build the physical circuit, gather up your Arduino Uno board, USB cable, solderless breadboard, an LED, resistors (one from 100-1K ohms and one 10K ohm), pushbutton, and breadboard wires.
How does a push button in a circuit work?
A Push Button is a type of switch work on a simple mechanism called “Push-to-make”. Initially, it remains in off state or normally open state but when it is pressed, it allows the current to pass through it or we can say it makes the circuit when pressed. Normally their body is made up of plastic or metal in some types.

How is the pushbutton connected to the ground?
When the pushbutton is open (unpressed) there is no connection between the two legs of the pushbutton, so the pin is connected to ground (through the pull-down resistor) and we read a LOW. When the button is closed (pressed), it makes a connection between its two legs, connecting the pin to 5 volts, so that we read a HIGH.
Push Button structure has four legs, two on one side and other two on another side. So, we can operate two lines of the circuit by single Push Button. Two legs on both the sides are internally connected as shown in the figure above.
