How does a thermocouple simulator work?
A thermocouple produces the “table values” only when its copper connections are in an ice point reference bath. The simulator does this by measuring the temperature of the isothermal block, calculating the thermocouple voltage across the two copper-to-hookup-wire junctions, and adjusting V1 appropriately.
What is a thermocouple simulator?
A thermocouple simulator is a standard tool which comes in handy in tiding over these problems of on-site temperature calibrations. The simulator gives a mV output corresponding to the selected thermocouple and the set temperature.

What is a multifunction calibrator?
Multifunction calibrators are designed to source and measure electrical signals such as voltage, current, resistance, and frequency, and pulses so as to verify the accuracy of sensors and measuring instruments. With options they can also measure/source pressure.

Can a thermocouple be used as a summing amplifier?
Armed with a thermocouple, a local temp sensor and a summing amplifier you can design a practical preamplifier. As a project goal, let’s design a circuit for a J-Type thermocouple that produces a 0 to 100 mV output for a 0 to 100 deg C temperature change – effectively, an output of 1 mV / C.
How are thermocouples connected to the terminal block?
When the thermocouple wires are connected to the terminal block, an additional pair of thermocouples is formed (one at each screw terminal). This is true if the screw-terminals are a different alloy from the thermocouple wires. Figure 1c shows an alternate representation of Figure 1b.
How does the temperature of the thermocouple affect the measurement?
The other tricky bit is that the measurement depends on the temperature both at point of interest (measure junction) AND the where the thermocouple connects to your circuit (reference junction). Because the reference junction will change with room temperature, you need to compensate for these changes (cold-end compensation).
