How does the RECCO system work?
How it works: 1. The RECCO detector emits a directional radar signal, like the beam of a flashlight. When the radar signal hits the RECCO reflector, it is echoed back to the detector and points the rescuer in the direction of the victim.
Is RECCO an RFID?
I am not very familiar with RECCO’s Avalanche system, but from what I gather from reading the company’s Web site, it is not an RFID system. The system has a longer read range—200 meters (656 feet)—than passive RFID systems, because the reflector is optimized to reflect back as much energy as possible.

The RECCO® system is a technology which helps rescuers to find victims of avalanche buriers or to search for people which got lost in the outdoors. And it helps the victims to be searchable during such accidents. It consists out of two parts, a detector and a reflector.
