How does Wireshark identify TCP packets?
You can easily find packets once you have captured some packets or have read in a previously saved capture file. Simply select Edit → Find Packet… in the main menu. Wireshark will open a toolbar between the main toolbar and the packet list shown in Figure 6.11, “The “Find Packet” toolbar”.
What is TCP DUP ACK in Wireshark?
Duplicate ACKs are sent when the receiver sees a gap in the packets it receives. They’re not just used for fast retransmissions, it is the other way around (sort of): fast retransmissions use a counter for duplicate ACKs to trigger a retransmission faster than by Retransmission TimeOut (RTO).
Are there any retransmitted segments in the trace file?
Solution: There are no retransmitted segments in the trace file.
How to detect duplication and retransmission in Wireshark?
I undestand that the retransmission is done after not receiving the ACK flag and the duplication is done after receiving the paquet two times but I want to know wht we have to check in wireshark to understand it. For duplication, the packet send with how many seq numbers and how many ACK plz ?
The large number of original lost packets trigger many Dup-ACKs and in response, the sender retransmits a single packet to begin to fill the gap. Following the horizontal “Ack line” on the chart we see the single retransmitted packet and the step up of the Ack line. 4) One RTT after that, there’s another single packet retransmission.
Are there any protocols that do not recognize duplicate packets?
Duplicate Packets. ConnectionOrientedProtocols such as TCP will detect duplicate packets, and will ignore them completely. ConnectionlessProtocols such as UDP won’t detect duplicate packets, because there’s no information in, for example, the UDP header to identify a packet so that packets can be recognized as duplicates.
What to look for in TCP spurious retransmission?
Duplicate packets should be flagged as “TCP Spurious Retransmission” or “TCP Out-of-Order” in the info column. It has the same SEQ and ACK values as the original packet, and also the same IP ID (ip.id).
