How good does your PC have to be for Oculus Rift?
As far as the CPU goes, even at Oculus’ recommended level, all you need is at least an Intel Core i5-4590 (that’s “Haswell” or fourth-generation Core, an old chip generation by now) or an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X ($220.00 at Amazon) or better. These suggestions are not high bars to hit, particularly on the Intel side.
Does Oculus Link affect performance?
No, the pc renders the game the same as the rift S. Per the earlier comment, it renders at a higher resolution for Quest than for Rift S though. It also has to compress each frame and send it over the USB port, which adds a bit more overhead. So Link does add processing, but not because it’s “emulating the rift S.”
