How is MUF measured?
Typically the MUF is a predicted number. Given the maximum observed frequency (MOF) for a mode on each day of the month at a given hour, the MUF is the highest frequency for which an ionospheric communications path is predicted on 50% of the days of the month.
How accurate is VOACAP?
Testing at VOA using professional shortwave monitors have shown that the VOACAP predictions are very accurate. Basically, if you design a system and operate it on the correct frequencies, you will achieve or exceed a predicted reliability of 90 percent.
What is the default angle of a minimum takeoff angle?
Conclusion. For most amateur applications, one should use a minimum angle of 3.0 degrees. The default value in VOACAP is 0.1 degrees.
What does VOACAP software model?
VOACAP (Voice of America Coverage Analysis Program) is a radio propagation model that uses empirical data to predict the point-to-point path loss and coverage of a given transceiver if given as inputs: two antennas (configuration and position), solar weather, and time/date.
How do you calculate skip distance?
VM => Sound velocity in specimen. The “skip distance” is the surface distance from the probe “index point” where the sound beam returns to the surface. This distance must be calculated to determine the probe distance to the weld to provide full inspection coverage for the component thickness. TM => Thickness material.
Is HF propagation software?
ACE-HF Propagation Prediction Software – ACE HF Pro, ACE HF Mobile are Radio Frequency (RF) propagation analysis tools designed for military applications. This version allows the user to analyze the entire HF spectrum using a single fixed transmitter location and multiply receive locations.
What is Vocap?
Definition. Options. Rating. VOCAP. Vertex Outstanding Contributor Award Program.
What orientation of Bz B sub z increases the likelihood that incoming particles from the sun will cause disturbed conditions?
A southward orientation of Bz (B sub z) increases the likelihood that incoming particles from the Sun will cause disturbed conditions. HF propagation is generally poor when Bz is oriented southward and geomagnetic conditions are disturbed.
Which brand of frequency is suitable for communication over great distances?
Answer: Most of the long distance communication results from ionisation of the F layer, the most applicable radio bands in the High Frequency being 3.5 MHz, 7 MHz, 14 MHz and 21 MHz.
How to use VOACAP for HF propagation prediction?
VOACAP Quick Guide HF Propagation Prediction and Ionospheric Communications Analysis by Jari Perkiömäki, OH6BG/OG6G This is a ‘work-in-progress’ guide to using VOACAP (Voice of America Coverage Analysis Program)- free professional HF propagation prediction software from NTIA/ITS, originally developed for Voice of America (VOA).
Where can I download the latest version of VOACAP?
Downloading VOACAP Download from Greg Hand’s site, all new updates of the ITSHFBC package are available here Alternative direct download, 8 Dec 2009 version (3.1 MB) Download from the home of VOACAP, NTIA/ITS, this ITSHFBC page has not been updated for long The 8 Dec 2009 version The 26 Mar 2009 version
Which is the replacement service for VOACAP P2P?
The VOACAP Online HF Predictions service ( voacap.com/hf) is a replacement for and a consolidation of the previous VOACAP Online P2P (point-to-point) service at voacap.com/p2p and VOACAP Online Coverage Maps at voacap.com/area. These two previous services have been closed down.
