How long is PGRestore?
Its data is updated regularly as a result of tests, then a new dump must be made, and the dumps are regularly used to recreate the database in a well-defined state. How does PGRestore work?
pg_restore can operate in two modes. If a database name is specified, pg_restore connects to that database and restores archive contents directly into the database. Otherwise, a script containing the SQL commands necessary to rebuild the database is created and written to a file or standard output.

Improve pg dump&restore By specifying -Fc, the pg_dump output is already compressed. The compression is not maximal, so you may find some space savings by using “gzip -9”, but I would wager it’s not enough to warrant the extra time (and I/O) used compressing and uncompressing the -Fc version of the backup.
