How many flight hours do captains have?
1,500 flight hours
To Captain a commercial aircraft, you must have logged at least 1,500 flight hours and hold a full Air Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL).
How do pilots record flight hours?
You note the Hobbs meter reading (in tenths of an hours) before starting the engine, and subtract that from the reading at engine shutdown to get your pilot time to record in your log book. A pilot is responsible for maintaining the log of their own hours.
Do pilots fly the same route every day?
The short answer is: No, we do not have regular routes. We can fly any number of routes in a given month. An airline’s mechanism to schedule pilots and flight attendants is complicated and crewmembers themselves are responsible for selecting a schedule that meets their needs every month.

Second Officers can log P2X time when they take the right seat as PM or PF. PILOTLOG does not have a dedicated time field for P2X hours. P2X time shall be logged as SIC function time and by selecting the “P2X” tag as Type of Operation : There are no separate time fields to log single/multi pilot time.
What’s the difference between a captain and a first officer?
At the commercial airline level, there is very little difference between a captain and a first officer, other than the amount of time that they have been at the company (seniority). Typically, each of the two pilots takes turns flying the airplane.

A senior first officer tends to have at least 1,500 hours total flying experience, however, this varies from airline to airline. The SFO is second in command of the aircraft after the captain.
Can a first officer log their pic time?
First Officers can log Pilot-in-Command Under Supervision when they take the left-seat in cruise, or when the are PF in the right seat (as per your aviation authority regulations). PILOTLOG comes with a dedicated field to log PICus hours. There is a separate field for PICus. SPIC can be logged as PIC function time.
